The largely attended funeral of Alma Donalda Hazel took place at Our Lady of Assumption Church, on Wednesday November 27, 2019 with Msgr. Brian Sheehan celebrating and Fr. Douglas McNeil, and Rev. David Barrett in attendance. Mary Ann O’Hara and the Assumption Choir with soloist Jean Gallant, Edmund McDermott and the Men of Music provided the beautiful music ministry. Flag bearers were present from the ICCA, and an honor guard was formed by members of the CWL. Readers were Marijke Blok and Rev. David Barrett. Prayers of the faithful were given by Alma’s grandchildren, Thomas MacKenzie , Christina, and Patrick Sfeir. Pallbearers were, Dr. Patrick Quinlan, Daniel Crowley, David O’Toole, Mark Crowley, Christopher Crowley, and John Hazel. Honorary pallbearers were, Arthur & Doreen Crowley, William & Mary Lou Joyce, William Crowley, John Crowley, Robert Quinlan, Joan Hazel, and Fred Whelan. Among the many floral and spiritual tributes received were those to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception from Mount Carmel Alumnae and Our Lady of Assumption Church.
Donations to the Fred Hazel Memorial Scholarship Fund, Bobby’s Hospice, Westside Foodbank, Sleeping Children Around the World, the Empty Stocking Fund, the Canadian Cancer Society, the Bruce Melanson Memorial Scholarship Fund, the Assumption Church Building Fund, the Cathedral Renovation Project, the S.P.C.A., the Tanya Barrett Memorial Scholarship Fund, and Rocmaura Foundation were also received. A donation was given to the John T. McMillian memorial scholarship fund, from Mosher and Chedore, also a donation was given to Romero House, from the Board of Directors and Staff and volunteers of Romero House. Interment took place in Holy Cross Cemetery. A reception was held at Castle Funeral Home following the burial.
The family of Alma would like to say Thank you, to the Doctors, Nurses, Staff and Volunteers of Bobby’s Hospice for their exceptional care during mom’s time there, and also to everyone who came to visit or brought food, we Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
