KASTER – In loving memory of our Mom, Sharon Kaster (Mann) who passed away December 5, 2014.
Something will remind me
I never know just when,
It might be something someone says,
And it all comes back again
The times we spent together
The happiness, the fun,
Once again I feel the pain
Of life without my Mom
It's said that time's a healer
I'm not sure this is true,
There's not a day goes by Mom
That I don't cry for you
Love Always, Lisa & Shari

The family of the late Lorraine Swain would like to thank everyone who showed us such kindness and compassion during very difficult days and provided food, flowers, cards, prayers, words of sympathy and all those who made donations in our mother’s name for Hospice Fredericton, Hospice Miramichi, the New Brunswick Right to Life Association, the St. Michael’s Capital Campaign and other special organizations as well. We also wish to thank Maher’s Funeral Home.
Thank you to those who made our mother’s funeral Mass so special including the gentle women of the Catholic Women’s League (CWL), the St. Michael’s Choir accompanied by David Bunnell, the Alter servers from the Knights of Columbus and Father Leon Creamer. We also want to especially thank Father Paul Doucet who provided our family with spiritual guidance and was the main Celebrant at our mother’s funeral Mass. We also wish to thank Audrey Cormier and her special team who served at the reception.
Our mother, Lorraine Theresa Swain, of Miramichi passed away peacefully at Hospice Fredericton on November 14, 2019 at the age of 89. She was born in Chatham Head, NB on June 27, 1930 and was the daughter of Anthony and Edmay Henry. She is survived by her children Joan, Theresa (Robert) Aboud, Greg, Gary (Caterina Crispo), Jennifer (Greg) Thompson, and her “adopted” Belgian daughter, Barbara Van Laere; her grandchildren Terri–Lynn, Laura, Jenna, Nathen, Meghan, Keenan, Matilda and Jack will miss their Grandmother; her great grandchildren Cash, Kingston, Walker, Flynn, and Ben; brothers Eric (Lauza) Henry, Patrick (Ann) Henry and sister Freda (Des) Trainor; sister–in–law Patsy (Malcolm) Daley; brothers–in–law, Jerry Swain and Bob Gallery; and many nieces and nephews on the Swain and Henry sides. She was predeceased by her husband, Greg Swain; her infant daughter, Susan; her brothers, Ivan Henry, Medie Henry, Leo (Ruby) Henry, Fred (Leona) Henry, Tony (Yvonne) Henry; her sister, Agnes (Fred) Cormier; and her brothers–in–law William (Dot) Swain, Johnny (Carol) Swain, Donald (Zita) Swain and sisters–in–law Vera, wife of Jerry Swain and Betty, wife of Bob Gallery.
Smitten by a young Gregory Swain, she crossed the Atlantic Ocean to marry him in 1957 when Greg was serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force. Both daughters Joan and Theresa were born in Europe. Returning to Canada in 1961, Greg and Lorraine had children Greg, Gary, Susan (deceased) and Jennifer, all born in Ottawa, ON.
Lorraine was an active member of the many parishes she was part of over the years both in Canada and abroad, including Our Lady of the Airways at CFB Uplands, Ottawa, ON, Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Chatham Head and a long time member of St. Michael’s Parish in Chatham, NB. She returned to the East Coast in 1972 to assist in tending to her father, Anthony, a quadriplegic after a home fall. Lorraine was active in the Catholic Women’s League throughout her life and the Santa Maria Auxiliary of Council 1219 Knights of Columbus. Lorraine worked at Henry Wilson Insurance Limited in Chatham, after all the children were at school. Beginning as a secretary, she studied in order to provide more and more insurance services to the company’s clients and assisting Henry in building a thriving business. She served as President of the Miramichi Chapter of the Right to Life and raised funds for the New Brunswick Kidney Foundation.
As a teen, Lorraine had lost one kidney to tuberculosis. Lorraine was quite athletic and adventurous as a young person, playing softball and acting in the dramas presented at the Parish Hall in Nelson, NB. She had a quick smile which she sustained up until the time of her death. Despite her frailness while in hospice care, the medical staff were amazed at her spirit and resilience.
She possessed a keen pastoral sense of care for the physical and psychological needs of her family and friends. She always saw the person first and supported her family and friends without judgement. She lived a life of service, compassion, and care to her family, friends, community and her God.
Her family takes comfort in knowing that Lorraine and Greg are re–united in Heaven. We know that somewhere beyond this earth numerous variants (depending on the circumstances) of Mom’s patented exclamation, “Oh, Greg!”, are resounding.
Special thanks to Dr. Bea Sainz and the exceptionally gifted staff at Fredericton Hospice, staff at Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital who cared for our mother and especially Dr. Karrie Vanmiddlesworth, Dr. Jillian Goodyear and Dr. Robert Daigle as well as the nursing team in Palliative care for their compassion and care. In addition, thank you to Dr. Paula Keating in Miramichi for our mother’s ongoing care over the past years. We also wish to thank Father John Jennings, Marg Denning and Father Bill Brennan for their kind, pastoral care and thank you, Father Bill, for sharing your gift of stories and faith with our mother and us as a family during our mother’s journey home. The kindness and God’s love that you all shared with our mother will remain forever in our hearts.
As our mother and father did in life, may every gesture of kindness you give to one another be a sign of God’s love and peace. God bless you all. The family of Lorraine and Greg Swain

UNDERHILL – The family of the late Angela Underhill would like to send a sincere thank you to the following people for the kindness and support they have shown during our recent loss: Northumberland Funeral Home for their care and compassion, the CWL for providing the lunch after the funeral, and a huge thank you to Father Godwin for the kind words and for reminding us that Angela was a wonderful, selfless person who never complained.
We also wish to thank the organist Jacquline Allain for the beautiful music, the readers – Carla Pitre, Deidre Underhill, and Charity Walls; the pallbearers, the honorary pallbearer, consisting of her first cousins who formed a guard of honor, to her niece Amelia Underhill for singing and playing “The River” on guitar, and all the neighbors, family and friends who came to the house with food, cards and offerings of condolences. We needed you there more than you’ll ever know.
We especially want to thank everyone for reminding and confirming us just what a beautiful person she was, and how much she was loved and respected. July 7, 1924 – December 3, 2019
Herbert Roy Schwartz passed away at the DECRH on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at age 95. Herb was born in Woodlands, NB on July 7, 1924, son of the late Amos J. and Annie (Fowler) Schwartz.
Survived by sons, Roger (Susan) and Douglas (Louise); daughters, Charlotte (Graydon) Cook and Marilyn (Bill) Conley; ten grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brother, John; sisters, Eva Logan, Francis McFadzen, Faye Thomas and Helen Bartlett; sister-in-law, Doris Pinnock; many nieces and nephews.
Herb was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Jessie (Sherwood); brother, Walter; sisters, Evelyn Schwartz and Mavis Stickles.
Dad was a local building contractor for more than thirty years and he took great pride in his accomplishments. He valued his many customers and he built many homes in the Fredericton region. He worked with wood for almost eighty years, from his early days in lumber camps to sawmills to home construction to fine furniture. Along the way, he learned the art of business. Dad was a farmer at heart, enjoying his garden on Sunset Drive and (in retirement) the homestead farm in Woodlands.
In recent years, he stayed close to home, yet he always enjoyed his weekly trips to the North Side Market and to Church on Sunday morning. He loved visits from family and friends. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church (Nashwaaksis).
With the help of dedicated caregivers and good neighbours, Herb was able to live in the family home until very recently, and for that we are very grateful.
Visitation will take place at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, 75 Main Street, Fredericton, NB on Sunday, December 8, 2019 from 2 to 6 pm. The Funeral Service will take place at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church on Monday, December 9, 2019 at 11 am with Rev. Paul Ranson officiating.
For those who wish, remembrances can be made to the St. John the Evangelist Church Building Fund or a charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
