Obituary for Greta Cummings

It is with heavy hearts and love that the family announces the passing of Greta Margaret Alma Cummings (Griffiths) of Southampton, NB on October 9, 2019 at the Upper River Valley Hospital. Born on January 5, 1927 on Keswick Ridge, NB, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Helen (Christie) Griffiths.

Greta led a full and active life, enjoying gardening, knitting, quilting and upholstering furniture. She was especially famous for her brown bread and her pies which she enjoyed sharing with family and friends. She was a housewife and mother, and an active member of her community, volunteering her time at church, Women’s Institute and community events. She enjoyed celebrating her Welsh heritage at the annual church service in Cardigan, NB.

She is survived by her children, Barbara Fox (Dana), Sharon Morrison (Bob), Ashley Cummings (Margaret), Nancy McLaughlin (Carman), Jeffrey Cummings (Brenda), Lisa Grasse (Jamie) and Julie Goddard (Brent); 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Greta is also survived by sisters Marion Vincent of Keswick Ridge, NB and Shirley Carnahan of Calgary, AB; sisters-in-law Audrey Cummings, Ruth Cummings and Louise Cummings; brothers-in-law Glen Cummings and Malcolm Cummings and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Hayward Cummings, her brother Donald Griffiths and sisters Jean Haines (late Harry), Dorothy Dobson (late Keith), brothers-in-law Erlon Vincent, William Carnahan, Colby Cummings, Hazen Cummings, Clifton Cummings, Edison Cummings (late Betty), and sisters-in-law Vivian Cummings, Vera Cowie (late John) and Marie Nelson (late John).

Visitation will be held at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic, NB on Friday, October 11, 2019 from 1 to 4 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Kirk United Church, Landegger Drive, Nackawic, NB on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 2 p.m. with Alice Finnamore officiating. Interment will be at Lenentine Cemetery.

The Cummings family would like to thank all the caring staff of the Horizon Health Network at the DECH and Upper River Valley Hospital. Her nursing and doctor care was exceptional.

For those who wish to make a donation in memory of Greta the family has suggested the Lenentine Cemetery, the Kirk United Church or a charity of the donor’s choice. www.flewellingswan.com
