Obituary for JoAnne Rosalie DeMerchant
On Saturday, July 6th, and with broken hearts, we watched as our precious JoAnne, gained her angel wings and left this Earth to join her dear son Andrew in Heaven.
She left behind her best friend and loving husband of 52 years, Garnet, her cherished sons Ian (Danica) and Nicholas (Shelley) as well as her four grandchildren, the gems of her life, Josie, Jake, Celia and Libby.
JoAnne is also survived by a brother, Samuel MacPhee, and three sisters, Jeanne MacMillan, Caroll Estey (Robert), Heather English, her sister–in–law, Marilyn DeMerchant (Ian), brother–in–law, Byron DeMerchant and several loving nieces and nephews. Her life was also enriched by so many special friends, especially her adopted “kids” Gail and Dennis Boyce and chosen sisters Eva MacSween and Joan Dixon.
JoAnne was predeceased by her son Andrew, her parents John and Leanna MacPhee, her brother Jackie, her mother and father–in–law Gordon and Flora DeMerchant, her nephew Jamie Estey and her brother–in–law, David English.
JoAnne’s nursing career spanned over 42 years in both the Chalmers and Victoria Public Hospitals, but it did not stop there. Her entire life was spent helping others. With her heart of gold, she unselfishly gave of her time, sharing her love and skills with anyone and everyone who were in need. During happy times and hurting times, JoAnne was “On Call.”
In her memory, a kind deed to others or support to Hospice House would be her wish.
JoAnne fought the good fight with courage and bravery. She is now at peace and free of pain. We’ll love and miss her always.
As per JoAnne’s wishes, there will not be any visitation or service. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
