Obituary for Edouard Cormier

1919 – 2017
Edouard Joseph “Jigger” Cormier, 98, of Moncton, passed away surrounded by his loved ones, on Thursday November 30, 2017 at the Dr. Georges–L.–Dumont UHC following a brief illness. Born on July 10, 1919 in Moncton, he was the son of the late Gregoire and Albina (Savoie) Cormier.

Edouard retired as a CN locomotive engineer. He was a 4th degree member with the Knights of Columbus – Council 1310, founding member of the Beauséjour Curling Club and former volunteer for many years. He enjoyed spending time at the cottage and being surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great–grandchildren. A great story teller, he was quick to deliver a witty one–liner with a glint in his eye matched by a warm hearted smile. He loved family parties, reunions, golf, and rum… in that order.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 73 years, Thelma “Delima” née Martin; a daughter, Charline; four sons: Robert (Linda), Bernard (Diane), Michel (Pauline), and Gregoire (Kim); 17 grandchildren and 17 great–grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family – the 11th generation of shipbuilder Robert Cormier from La Rochelle, France who immigrated to St. Pierre, Nova Scotia in 1644.

In addition to his parents, Edouard was predeceased by his sisters: Agnès Arsenault, Maria Saulnier, and Yvonne Melanson; his brothers: Paul, Henri, Emile, Alfred, Néri, and infant Néri.

The family will be receiving condolences at Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858–1900) Sunday from 2–4 and 7–9 pm only. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Christ–Roi Roman Catholic Church, 300 Dominion Street, Moncton on Monday December 4 at 9:30 am. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary cemetery, Dieppe.

In memory of Edouard, a contribution to the N.B. Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.Words of comfort and donations may be made at www.frenettefuneralhome.com
